C’est dans le cadre de l’année France-Russie 2010 que le plus prestigieux des orchestres russes interprétera les Symphonies n°3 et n°6 de Tchaïkovski. Programme captivant, tant le contraste est grand entre ces deux œuvres : la3ème Symphonie, la seule écrite en majeur parmi les six du compositeur, évoque volontiers, avec ses deux scherzos, une musique proche de la danse (Balanchine l’a d’ailleurs chorégraphiée). La 6ème Symphonie, dite « Pathétique », avec son introduction lugubre, avec sa valse à cinq temps (deuxième mouvement), avec ses inexorables lignes descendantes, ses déflagrations, porte en elle une amertume noire, et pourtant parcourue de tant de splendeur…

The most prestigious Russian orchestra will performSymphonies No.3 and No.6 by Tchaikovsky within the framework of France-Russia Year 2010. A captivating programme because of the great contrast between the two works: Symphony No.3, the only one in a major key out of Tchaikovsky's six symphonies, with its two scherzos, clearly evokes dance music (Balanchine choreographed it). The 6th Symphony, the “Pathétique”, with its gloomy introduction, its waltz in 5/4 time (second movement), its unstoppable descending scales and its explosions, expresses a dark bitterness while remaining so full of splendour...
